Urban Development Programme
- Technical assistance and institutional strengthening of the six urban municipalities, as well as of the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development ( MLGRD ), the Valuation office of the Ministry of Finance and the Program Executing Unit.
- Investments in the rehabilitation of urban infrastructure and services.
- Clarification of responsibilities among national, regional and local governments concerning the
provision of municipal services and operation and maintenance of urban infrastructure.
- Establishment of efficient sources of revenue for municipal services and infrastructure.
- Revision of the organizational structure of municipalities and central government agencies concerned with urban management
- Training of municipality personnel, council members and central government officials
- Project management to rehabilitate existing urban infrastructure and restore urban services in the six municipalities identified in the UDP. Urban infrastructure projects include road and drainage improvements and on-site sanitary solutions for low income households. The restoration of municipal services includes solid waste management, municipal markets and abattoirs, street lighting and municipal buildings such as offices and workshops
