Mongolia

Application of Land Management and Mapping Techniques

Government of Mongolia will be undertaking a Cadastral Survey and Land registration project in 2000 and beyond. Project will include surveying and mapping large areas of land in Mongolia using a variety of techniques including traditional photogrammetry and satellite imagery. This mapping will form the base for the National Land Information System ( NLIS ) to be set up within the Land Management Agency. NLIS will collect, store and manage all data related to land, possession, value, topography, improvements, taxation and various other items related to land.

ACGI consutlants conducted feasibility study to address the Following:

  • Institutional arrangements and linkages with government agencies and the private sector
  • Capacity Building to assist the Government of Mongolia with the new concepts, procedures and technologies to be introduced by the project implementation
  • Introduction of modern geomatics technologies such as GPS, GIS , satellite imagery and remote sensing for cadastral surveying
  • Introduction of photogrammetric techniques for cadastral mapping
  • Data management systems such as Land Information Systems
  • Review of the Land Laws and various other legislative support to implement the project

Sustainability of the project through a coordinated training program
